Ednaldo Rodrigues, the current acting president, is set to complete his term in 2026, but reports indicate that elections for the position could take place as early as next year.
Speculation has emerged that Ronaldo is considering running for the role. According to sources (via beIN SPORTS), the former striker has even explored the idea of recruiting Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola as the next head coach of Brazil’s national team. However, Guardiola’s recent two-year contract extension with Manchester City complicates any such plans. The Spanish coach, credited with leading City to four consecutive Premier League titles, remains pivotal to the club’s ongoing dominance.
Speaking about the rumors, Ronaldo offered clarification during an interview (via Fabrizio Romano). He stated:
“For a long time, I’ve shared my vision of becoming the CBF president. That ambition remains unchanged. I’m well-prepared and waiting for the right opportunity. Brazilian football urgently needs transformative changes. That said, I’m not currently a candidate, as no elections are scheduled yet—it’s simply an aspiration for the future.”
Ronaldo has steadily increased his involvement in football governance over recent years. He became the majority shareholder of Spanish club Real Valladolid in 2018, investing approximately €30 million. Additionally, he serves on the board of directors for Cruzeiro, the club where he began his professional career.
