Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran has faced backlash from journalists, who have urged him to “stop acting like Cristiano Ronaldo” following his recent remarks to the media. The Colombian has been in fine form this season under Unai Emery, netting eight goals in 17 matches across all competitions.
After Colombia’s recent defeat to Ecuador during the international break, Duran made a controversial statement to Caracol Radio, saying:
“Why aren’t you a coach? It’s easy to spot spaces and analyze from the outside. We have to be on the field to really understand the challenges.”
This comment sparked criticism from South American journalists. Ivan Mejia, via Sport Witness, said:
“If he’s acting this arrogant without achieving anything, it will only lead to his downfall. Even in England, his teammates reportedly struggle to tolerate him.”
Adolfo Perez added:
“Someone needs to tell Duran to stop thinking he’s Cristiano Ronaldo. If his rebellious attitude keeps being encouraged, it will stunt his growth. He’s far from the player he needs to become.”
Juan Felipe Cadavid from Caracol Radio, where Duran initially spoke, also weighed in:
“He needs constructive advice, less praise for everything he does, and more guidance that helps him mature.”
Saha Tips Ronaldo for a Premier League Return
Former Premier League striker Louis Saha has suggested Cristiano Ronaldo could return to Manchester United under Ruben Amorim’s management. Ronaldo shares a strong bond with the new United coach, a former teammate from Portugal’s national team.
Ronaldo’s previous stint at United ended in controversy after his 2022 interview with Piers Morgan, which led to his contract termination and his move to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. Despite this, Saha believes Ronaldo might consider a comeback. Speaking to BetFred, Saha said:
“I think Ronaldo would love to return in a role where he feels respected. While his exit from United wasn’t ideal, many fans and players understood his point of view. If the opportunity arises, Ronaldo would embrace the challenge of helping the club again.”
Saha emphasized that any decision would depend on Amorim’s belief in Ronaldo’s ability to contribute, not merely their friendship. The two shared the pitch 94 times during their United careers, combining for seven goals.
