**Jason Kidd Singles Out Klay Thompson’s Defensive Struggles as Reason for Warriors’ Recent Woes**

March 2, 2025 – The Golden State Warriors’ struggles this season have been a major talking point, and Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd didn’t hold back when discussing one of the key reasons behind their issues. In a recent press conference, Kidd pointed to Klay Thompson’s declining defense as a major factor in the Warriors’ inconsistency.

“Klay has been an incredible player throughout his career, but you can see teams attacking him more than ever,” Kidd said. “His lateral movement isn’t what it used to be, and that’s something teams are exploiting. Golden State’s defense isn’t the same when he’s on the floor.”

Thompson, once known as an elite two-way player, has faced increased scrutiny this season as his defensive performances have dipped. At 35 years old and following multiple major injuries, his ability to lock down perimeter scorers has noticeably declined.

The Warriors, who are fighting to stay in the playoff hunt, have struggled defensively, ranking near the bottom of the league in opponent three-point percentage and overall defensive efficiency. While Thompson remains a valuable offensive weapon, averaging around 17 points per game, his diminished defensive impact has forced head coach Steve Kerr to make tough lineup decisions.

Despite Kidd’s critique, Thompson remains confident in his ability to contribute. “I know what I’m capable of,” Thompson said after a recent game. “I take pride in my defense, and I’ll continue working to be the best version of myself.”

The Warriors will need a defensive resurgence from Thompson and the rest of their roster if they hope to make a deep playoff run. As for Kidd, his comments could add some extra fuel when the Mavericks and Warriors face off in their next matchup.
